Efficient Handling of Interlayers

In this application, a robot from FANUC Europe handles interlayers for cardboard boxes using a custom solution from the Zimmer Group. This solution consists of Magic Grippers and the ZSU sensor unit. The Magic Grippers enable precise picking and safe handling of the interlayers. A reliable gripping process is of crucial importance, especially when dealing with different types of cartons and varying formats. The ZSU sensor unit ensures high transparency and maximum process reliability throughout the entire handling sequence with its intelligent, real-time vacuum monitoring. The ZSU allows for the simultaneous monitoring and control of up to eight Magic Grippers or vacuum systems. This enables centralized management of multiple suction points, while leaks, wear, or malfunctions are detected early—before they lead to downtime or quality losses. Thanks to its compact design, a single M8 connector for input and output signals, and the option to choose between NPN or PNP configurations, the sensor unit can be integrated flexibly and easily into a wide variety of automation concepts.
